News on the Knicks, Nets, and Carmelo has been getting hotter and hotter by the day. With the NBA trade deadline looming, we can expect more news to surface, such as Anthony Randolph's agent meeting with Donnie Walsh to request a trade, Carmelo Anthony's agent Leon Rose making an appearing at the Garden to take up a Knicks game and to possibly discuss the future of one of his clients (Leon Rose's intentions actually may not be in Carmelo's best interest). And I'm betting Leon would love Anthony to sign the 3 years 65 million dollar extension, since that will be where his first payment for services rendered will come from. Carmelo accepting less means Leon accepting less commission.
And in other news, the Memphis Grizzlies may not want to blow up the roster and start fresh after signing Mike Conley to an extension and plan to match any offer for Marc Gasol when he is a restricted free agent this summer. So if the Knicks want Marc G., then they are in for a battle. All in all, there is only news speculation out there at the moment, so here are a list of todays Knicks news from HoopsHype with links to various sources, for your daily dosage of "Melo drama". Enjoy!

The New York Knicks will trade Anthony Randolph for a first-round draft pick within the next two weeks, according to league sources. Minnesota, Indiana and Portland are among the likeliest destinations.ESPN.com With the Knicks' chances to acquire Carmelo Anthony dying on the vine, team president Donnie Walsh received a trade request last night from the agent for Anthony Randolph, who has been out of the rotation since mid-November. Walsh met with Randolph's representative, Bill Duffy, one hour before tip-off of the Knicks' 93-83 loss to the Kings. Duffy asked Walsh about the possibility of dealing Randolph, who was taken out of the rotation in mid-November, resulting in the Knicks going on a 13-1 spree. The Post reported Thursday that Walsh was waffling on whether to trade Randolph to Minnesota for a first-round pick that could be used in an Anthony deal, but the Nets are the ones closest to landing him. New York Post Another source very familiar with this landscape insisted this week that the New York Knicks -- another major market that can deliver the visibility Howard craves -- will also factor strongly in his thinking when he hits free agency.ESPN.com Anthony stopped short of saying he wanted to play for the New York Knicks or the New Jersey Nets, who will move into a new arena in Brooklyn in 2012. "I don't know, it's tough for me to answer that question," Anthony said when asked where he wants to play next year. "It's tough for me to sit here and say, 'Oh, I want to play in New York' [or] 'Oh, I want to play in New Jersey' [or] 'Oh, I want to say here [in Denver].' " ESPN.com Griz brass strongly stated that there is no intention to trade Mayo despite the latest noise created by an ESPN.com article. The report said the New York Knicks tried to enlist Memphis (with Mayo) to complete a three-way deal in order to land Denver's Anthony. Griz general manager Chris Wallace said he hasn't had any conversations with New York or Denver in that regard. Knicks boss Donnie Walsh also chimed in by telling New York media there was no truth to the report. Memphis Commercial Appeal The common belief is Walsh will be happy to see his contract option for next season exercised by Knicks owner James Dolan, then ride off into the Indiana sunset when the pact expires after the 2011-12 season. New York Post But that is not Walsh's plan, according to a league associate, who believes Walsh does not want to retire until he wins a championship in New York. For all the years Walsh has toiled in the NBA, dating to 1970s, he has never won it all. "I think he wants to see this through with the Knicks and win a championship," the league associate said.New York Post According to a source, the option for Walsh's final year must be exercised by April 30, not in March. A source believes Walsh and Dolan won't sit down to discuss his future until after the Feb. 24 trade deadline. New York Post Walsh still uses a cane or walker, but won't for much longer. He has not yet traveled with the team this season nor has he made any college- scouting trips. The thinking is, Walsh underwent hip-replacement so he can be more vibrant for the long haul -- if there is one for him with the Knicks. New York Post Tina Cervasio: Many #Knicks had no idea @Amar'e Stoudemire was on Letterman. ShawneWilliams said Amare never said anything. I told SW to watch on YouTube,he did! Twitter |
